Yes, opening day is just around the corner for the Red Sox and the Idea Home is showing it’s support with bright green exterior walls. But it’s not the “Green Monstah”, the bright green exterior you are seeing is the Huber ZIP System wall sheathing, the newest trend to replace plywood and housewraps, such as Typar. ZIP System wall sheathing’s built-in Stormex™ water-resistive barrier keeps bulk water out during and after construction, eliminating the need for traditional housewraps. Simply install the panels, tape the seams, and you have a code-recognized structural panel, water-resistive barrier and air barrier all-in-one. Clay Gilmore, sales representative for Shepley Wood Products says, “It’s an exciting new economical product available for house sheathing, both sidewall and roof. It provides a weathertight barrier and the green walls look terrific from the street during the construction process.”
The walls themselves are nailed together and the window openings are framed out while laying horizontally on the first floor plywood. Then the entire wall is lifted up and secured to create the exterior shell of the first floor. Stay tuned for next week’s reports on the second floor and Go Sox!
